Long ago, before the arrival of humanity, members of the Animal Kingdom were the dominant species on Earth.  A prophecy was given in the kingdom: “One day, the animal world will come to an end.  However, there will be a savior, who will lead us to a new world.”

Present Day: The world has drastically changed for animals. Humanity has come to dominate the world and animals being exploited and abused has become the global norm.  Constant brutalization, processing to be eaten, and captivity, have made the livelihood of animals completely miserable.  Worse, the environment is severely polluted, and the homelands of wild animals are being gradually destroyed. The animals, their species, their homes; all being destroyed.   

Finally, an extraordinary group from the wild kingdom decides to stand up and fight for their lives.  Legend has it is that these animal warriors have special powers, and their leader might be the savior in the prophecy.

What kind of animal do you think the leader might be? What is their special ability?  Use your imagination and design an animal warrior of your own.

 

About this competition

The animal warrior character should be based on real-life animals (additional features, such as wings or blades, etc. are acceptable).  There are two phases in this competition.  In the first phase, 15 animal warriors will survive the war and enter the next stage.  The second phase includes a public voting process; three winners will be decided according to the judges’ scores and the vote.

 

Eligibility

Open to anyone who is interested in illustration and character designing.

 

Specifications

1. Submissions should include the following: a drawing of an animal warrior character; a description of design concept (100- 200 words); a preview image of your work.
2. Your design should be 300 or more resolution (DPI) in A3 size with the format of JPEG. Use CMYK color mode only. File name should be “title_ author name.”
3. Your design can be either black-and-white or colored.
4. All entries must be an individual’s work without having been contributed to other competitions before.  No plagiarism and counterfeiting.  Participants who violate any of the conditions above will be disqualified immediately.
5. The organizer reserves the right to modify the rules of information of this competition.
6. The organizer respects your rights and does not claim ownership or copyright for works submitted to this contest. Participants will retain full ownership and copyright in each entry.

Entry screening: March 12th -13th , 2015

Voting period: March 16th -20th , 2015

Final adjudication: March 23rd- 25th, 2015

Winners announcement: March 26th , 2015

Qualification round: creativity 40%; skill 40%; visual balance 20%

Final round: judges’ score 50%; public votes 50%

 

Prizes

Winners will receive personalized products based on their characters.  The organizer reserves the right to alter details of the design in the process of making the product.

1. First prize: A puzzle (300 pieces) + a water bottle + mouse pad + 200 USD
2. Second prize: A water bottle + mouse pad + 100 USD
3. Third prize: A mouse pad + 50 USD
